Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home       Lately, we have all become accustomed to the same routines. Being isolated and remaining in our homes is crucial, yet we all have begun to wish it wasn't. For many of us, we find an escape from the things that bring us stress, by surrounding ourselves with friends and loved ones. Although as we all know now, that is no longer an option. Take a few minutes out of your day to read this blog, where I have listed some safe activities to make your time at home a little more pleasurable.  Activities: - Workout - Have you been meaning to get back in the gym, but these testing times have not allowed for that? Take this time to set down a yoga mat, and get your body in action.  - Write to old friends - Do you have a friend or family member who you have lost contact with? Right now is a great time to send them a letter, a text, or even call them!  - Arts and Crafts - Are you an artist? Even if you're not, grabbing some pens and paper and free-drawing is a great wa

Memorial Day!

Memorial Day!      Tomorrow is known as "Memorial Day", a day to honor the men and women who have served in the military. These men and women have made many sacrifices, including some who lost their lives. As a way to show gratitude for these hardworking men and women, we often send letters, visit memorials, host family gatherings, or participate in annual parades.       Unfortunately, many of these celebrations are no longer able to happen this year, as a result of the pandemic we are now faced with. Yet it is still important to honor all the hard work and dedication these men and women put forth. So you may be wondering how to show your appreciation despite these setbacks. To start, there are many artistic activities you can do to express your appreciation. For example, you can make posters or signs. Decorating these posters with the colors of the United States Flag shows respect for these men and women and all they have done for our country. Another option is to

"That's a Bop"

"That's a Bop"      You may have heard the phrase, "That's a Bop", which basically means that a piece of music is what society views as great. For example, when the song Shake it Off came out in 2014, many young listeners referred to the song as being a "Bop". Another example is the song 10,000 Hours, released in 2019.       The reason why this phrase should be spoken about now, is because many people globally are dealing with hard times currently, and listening to music is a good outlet for their stress and pain during these times. If you're dealing with something difficult, and have not yet tried this method of release, set some time each day to listen to music that you enjoy. Music can change the way people view situations, and take their mind off the parts they don't like to think about. Of course, it won't completely ease the pain or stress, but it is a great way to change your mood and not have the situation take over e

Love is love

Love is love      As we study history and human rights, we often come across the topic of sexual orientation discrimination. This term is much simpler than you may think. It is discrimination or intolerance based on a person's sexual orientation. For example, hatred of someone because they are interested in someone of the same gender. There have been many activists throughout history who have made members of the LGBTQ+ lives' easier. Let's take Jack Nichols as an example. He was born in 1938, when there were many more instances of hate towards LGBTQ+ members than there are now. He was an American Activist who helped shape the idea of equal treatment to everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation. Unfortunately, there are still many hateful actions and words being said to these people today, but people such as Nichols, made their lives easier.      So you may be wondering why this topic is so important. The reason is simple: Love is love. When you meets somebo

Relationships with a mirror

Relationships with a mirror:      Most likely, when you read this title, you thought of self image. I tend to pinpoint this topic often in my blogs, because it is important to me, but is often misinterpreted. Many people seem to define self image as how you look in the mirror. Although that is part of this, there is much more to this topic. To me, self image is a combination of self love, self appearances and how we react to them, and self confidence. For example, when I look in the mirror, I may not always be pleased with what I see, because the other people look "perfect", yet I do not. But take a moment to imagine what they might say when they look in the mirror. Every person has insecurities and flaws, no matter how flawless they appear to be. This begins the conversation of the "Relationships with a mirror".       As I stated in the above paragraph, every person has flaws. But these flaws are awesome, they make us who we are. It is easy to stand in t

5 things I can't live without

5 things I can't live without:      Everybody needs food, water, clothes, shelter, etc. But some things, especially in this modern world, also feel so important to us. For me, those things are based around the topic of beauty and organization. For other people, they may be things that are needed for work, but no matter what they are, we still think of these items as "needs". Here are my top ten things I feel as if I can't live without. 1. I have always been a very organized student, throughout all the work I do. I haven't always used a planner, but ever since I began using one, I have realized how much of a "need", it truly is. I can write down my assignments, plans for the week, and my goals. I choose to write down goals, because each and every person in this world has room for improvement. Yes, it may be difficult to admit, but we aren't perfect, and that is what makes us beautiful. By writing down my goals, I accomplish them sooner, and

WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL

WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL      I am still in school, and most of the time, I focus on my school work during the day. For example, tests, classwork, homework, etc. But no matter how easy it would be to deny it, I admit I, along with my friends, keep a mirror in our my lockers. (Guess why?!?) It is easy to wonder what we look like, when we aren't given the opportunity to look every few minutes. It sounds bizarre, that we would want to look so perfect. But if you are similar to me, you've faced the tensions of wanting to look as flawless and presentable as you can. In my perspective, the main reason is to please other people. Why not to please ourselves? To add on, if you see other people glancing at you, it is easy to assume something is wrong. If you feel that this is true, try to remember one prominent thing. WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL!!! There are plenty of reasons for a person to stare, you never know which one it is. So why stress about it? They might even be jealous. So be you,
